Belly Out, Heart Open: What I Learned in a Swimsuit
I’ve always believed the sea has a way of softening everything — the noise, the stress, even the harsh voice in our own heads.
This summer, while vacationing in Antalya, something quietly shifted in me.

Something happened inside of me. I’m not sure what, but I felt it.
Each morning, I started the day the same way: I slipped into my swimsuit and walked straight to the pool — no cover-up, no makeup, no mirror check.
Just me, the water, and that first cool splash that felt like permission to begin again.
At home, I would have hesitated.
I’d worry about how I looked. Whether my stomach was flat enough, whether my legs were “ready,” whether my body had earned its place in the sun.
But there, something softened. I didn’t feel the need to hide. I didn’t feel watched or judged.
I felt present — fully, quietly, beautifully.
As the days passed, I started noticing the women around me. They came in all shapes, shades, and styles — women from diverse countries, cultures, and backgrounds.
Some wore shimmering gold swimsuits, others draped themselves in flowing kimonos or bold prints.
Their bodies didn’t match magazine covers — and they didn’t care.
They moved with confidence, ease, and something even more powerful: joy.
They weren’t hiding. They weren’t apologizing.
And the more I watched them, the more I felt it, too — not envy, not comparison, but something softer. Something like permission.

And the mindset slowly shifted…
I watched one woman in particular — curvy, radiant, unapologetically bold in a gold bikini so shiny it nearly blinded me.
She wasn’t hiding a damn thing. She laughed loud. She walked like the world was hers.
And in that moment, something clicked.
I decided I’m done playing small.
So I made a few mental notes.
Let’s call them… rules for future me:
1. If it doesn’t fit my soul, it’s a no.
Clothes. Roles. Conversations. I’m done squeezing into what wasn’t made for me.
2. Confidence is louder than abs.
I don’t need a flat stomach to take up space. Presence over perfection.
3. “No” is a full sentence.
And I don’t owe anyone an explanation for choosing peace.
4. Not everyone will get me. That’s fine.
I don’t like everyone either.
5. I’m not “still” beautiful. I’m not “young for my age.”
I’m just… me. No qualifiers needed.
6. Peace isn’t boring — it’s luxury.
Silence isn’t emptiness — it’s strength.
7. If I feel good in my skin, it looks better than any outfit.
Confidence is the glow-up.
8. My rhythm is my power.
I wake up early without an alarm. I nap when I need to. I live on my own terms.
The environment noticed the change
After I made those quiet promises to myself — head high, shoulders back, inner switch flipped to “unbothered” — something strange happened.
The men around me started to notice.
Not in a loud, creepy, or invasive way.
But in those small, unmistakable shifts: a longer glance. A curious smile. A polite “hello.”
That subtle spark when someone feels your energy before they even understand what changed.
Here’s the wild part:
I hadn’t lost a single pound.
I was still freckled, soft, and unfiltered.
But I was radiating something I hadn’t felt in a long time — and they saw it.
It felt like magic.
Or maybe it was just me… finally, fully arriving.

That’s the energy I’m packing from now on.
